When you are startled, or get upset, a group of changes occurs in your body called the Fight or Flight Syndrome. There are changes in your breathing and circulation; muscles tense in anticipation of action, and pores in your skin dilate a bit, in case your action makes you sweat. This last change in what Relaxometers and GSR2 instruments detect and make evident to you; dilation of the sweat glands can be measured with a minute electrical current and translated into a change in the pitch of the sound from the instrument.
Some events and most emotions increase your arousal a bit, but you don't usually notice. The job of these Skin Conductance instruments is to tell you about the change. Then you can learn that something is happening, and notice the circumstances which arouse you. You can also notice when you relax a bit, and that is the key information you need to learn to relax, because the FEEDBACK tells you when you are relaxing. The feedback is quick and easy to understand so it can guide your learning, and by practising in a peaceful place you can develop the capacity to relax when you want to. Then you can use that skill when you need it; you do not depend on the machine, you learn to do without it.
The skill of relaxation is fundamental to many parts of Stress Management, and several of our products help you get relaxed. The GSR2 and Relaxometers do so by making you aware of changes on your arousal level;.
