That is on the Wiki too - use the configscript.sh to run the dash preinst as well as set the DEBCONF environment variables. If you're installing Squeeze or later, shadow has been improved such that the security hole we used to use to set the root password for multiple machines is now closed. I've failed to find a way to reliably set the root password without some level of interaction and the consequences of not setting it (a random root password) are sufficiently serious that I can't recommend using methods which try to use other security holes - including trying to set the hash directly using a file or debconf. http://www.balloonboard.org/balloonwikiQuickInstall#Post_Root_FS_configurat= ion --=20 Neil Williams =3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D http://www.linux.codehelp.co.uk/ --Signature=_Tue__25_Oct_2011_11_40_17_+0100_4nOQC06pc8HrjUS+ Content-Type: application/pgp-signature -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.10 (GNU/Linux) iEYEARECAAYFAk6mkhEACgkQk7DVr6iX/QLKdQCfWnIqEg899OpwSElHEf0JIIVW JTcAoIb16KudAcbI5R5YjjXEZtE4nxIM =JA68 -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- --Signature=_Tue__25_Oct_2011_11_40_17_+0100_4nOQC06pc8HrjUS+--
